Episode 15: Write ten surahs like those in the Quran

Surah 11: Hud

This is the perfect scripture

1 This scripture has been perfected.

3 If you turn away, I fear for you on the awful day.

5 They fold up their breasts and hide their thoughts from him. But Allah knows what's in their breasts.

7 Allah created the heavens and the earth in six days. And his throne was on the water.

8 If we [Allah] delay the doom, people will say, “What are you waiting for?” But they'll be sorry when it comes. 12 People will say, “Why didn't Allah send down a treasure or an angel?”

Write ten surahs like those in the Quran

13 If people say, “He [Muhammad] invented the Quran.” Say to them, “Then bring ten surahs like those in the Quran.”

A double torment

16 Everything that those who burn in the fire do in this life is useless.

17 Disbelievers will burn in the fire. (And most people are disbelievers.)

18 Lying about Allah is the worst thing anyone could ever do.

19 Those who turn people away from Allah and disbelieve in the afterlife will face a double torment. 22 They'll be the biggest losers in the afterlife.

Noah's flood (a new version)

27 Those who heard Noah preach said to him, “You are only a human like us. Those who follow you do so without thinking. You're no better than us. In fact, you're a liar.”

36-37 It was revealed to Noah, “No one will believe unless they already believe. Don't worry about it. Just build the ship. They're all going to drown.”

38 As Noah built the ship, people laughed at him. Noah said to them, “I'm laughing at you while you laugh at me. 39 A lasting doom will soon fall upon you.”

40 When the flood came (and "the oven gushed forth water") we said to Noah, “Load two of each animal (male and female), along with your family, and any believers.” But only a few believers got on board.

42 Noah cried out to his son, “Come ride with us. Don't be with the disbelievers.”

43 But his son said, "I'll just go climb a mountain. That will save me from the flood." And so he drowned.

44 The ship came to rest on mount Al-Judi.

45 Noah said to Allah, “What happened to my son? He was in my family? You didn't drown him, too, did you?”

46 Allah answered him, “He wasn't in your family and he was evil, so don't ask me about him. Or you'll be among the ignorant.”

47 Noah said, “OK, sorry ab out that. I shouldn't have asked.”

48 Allah said to Noah, “Go down from the mountain. I'll be sending a painful doom on other nations later.”

The prophet Hud and the tribe of A'ad

50 We [Allah] sent Hud to the tribe of A'ad who said to you, “Serve Allah! 52 Repent and ask for forgiveness.”

53 The people said to Hud, “You have no proof, so we won't give up our gods.”

57 Hud said to them, “You can't hurt Allah.”

58 So we [Allah] saved Hud and those who believed him (and sent a harsh doom on everyone else).

60 A curse fell on them in this world and on the day of resurrection.

The prophet Salih and the tribe of Thamud

61 Then we sent Salih to the tribe of Thamud who said to you, “Serve Allah! Repent and ask for forgiveness.”

62 The people said to Salih, “So you want us to worship different god than the one our fathers worshiped? Why would we do that?”

Allah's she-camel

64 Salih said to them, “This is the camel of Allah. Don't touch or harm her or you'll be tormented.”

65 But they hamstrung her. So Salih said to them, “Enjoy where you'll be in three days.”

66-67 So we saved Salih and killed everyone in the tribe of Thamud.

Lo! This is a strange thing!

69 Our messengers came to Abraham and said, "Peace." Abraham said to them, "Peace" and fed them a roasted calf.

70 The messengers said, "We've come to visit Lot and his family."

71 And his wife laughed when we told her that she would be the mother of Isaac and Jacob.

72 She said, “Woe is me. I'll deliver a baby when I'm an old woman and my husband is an old man. That's pretty strange.”

Lot: Here are my daughters! They are purer for you

76 The messengers said to Abraham, “A doom is coming that can't be stopped.”

77 When the messengers came to Lot, he said, “This is a distressful day.”

78 Lot said to the people, “Here are my daughters. They are purer for you. But don't have sex with my guests.”

79 The people said, “You know that we can’t have your daughters. You know what we want.”

81 The messengers said to Lot, “Leave tonight and don't look back (except for your wife). Allah will smite her also.”

82 So we rained fire and stones on that town.

Shu-eyb: I fear for you the doom of a besetting day

84 We sent Shu'eyb to Midian, who said, “Serve Allah or you'll be doomed. 85 Seek justice, be fair, and avoid evil.”

87 The people said to him, “Do you expect us to give up the beliefs of our fathers?”

89 Shu'eyb said, “Don't let what happened to the people of Noah, Hud, Salih, or Lot happen to you. 90 Repent and ask pardon.”

91 The people said, “We don't understand much of what you're saying. We would have stoned you, if it weren't for your family.”

93 Shu'eyb said, “Okay then. You're all doomed.”

94 We saved Shu-eyb and those who believed him and killed everyone else.

Allah will fill hell with jinn and people

102 This is how Allah kills people. His grasp is very strong. 103 This is a sign for those who fear the doom of the hereafter. 105 When the doom comes, no one will speak, except by Allah's permission. 106 Some will be wretched, others glad. 107 The wretched ones will be in the fire forever.

113 Stay away from wrong-doers, or you might burn in the fire, without any protecting friends.

118 If Allah wanted, he could have made people one nation.

119 I [Allah] will fill hell with jinn and people.

123 Allah is invisible.

A few more words about this episode

bring ten surahs like those in the Quran. (13)
A test for those who suspect that Muhammad invented the Quran: compose ten surahs like those in the Quran. (It shouldn't be hard to do much better than surahs 38, 40, 44, 47, 63, 66, 88, 105, 111, and 114.)
The oven gushed forth water."
According to the Quran, the water from the flood "gushed forth from an oven"!
See Answering Islam: Noah's Ark Or Noah's Steamboat?
But Noah's son drowned. (43)
In the Bible all three of Noah's sons survive the flood.
The ship came to rest on mount Al-Judi. (44)
The Bible disagrees, saying it was on Mount Ararat.
We [Allah] sent Hud to the tribe of A'ad (50)
Muslims say that Hud was an Arabian prophet. No one knows who he was or if he ever existed. This surah is named after him.
Then we sent Salih to the tribe of Thamud (61)
Salih is another legendary Arabian prophet. He probably didn't exist either.
Abraham's wife laughed when we told her that she would be the mother of Isaac and Jacob. (71)
According to the Quran, Abraham's (unnamed) wife is the mother of Isaac and Jacob.
In the Bible, Abraham's wife Sarah is Isaac's mother - but Rebekah is the mother of Jacob.
We sent Shu'eyb to Midian (84)
Shy'eby (or Shuaib) is another long, lost Arabian prophet. Some Muslims think he might have been Jethro, Moses's father-in-law.
Don't let what happened to the people of Noah, Hud, Salih, or Lot happen to you. (89)
Allah destroyed all of these folks. (See Noah's folk, Hud's folk, Salih's folk, Lot's folk.)
Allah is invisible. (123)
The invisible and the nonexistent look a lot alike.
