We have destroyed many cities! Our terror came upon them when they least expected it. 5 There was no one to help them. 9 They lost their souls because they didn't believe our revelations.
We created you and then said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam." And they all did except for Iblis.
Allah said to Iblis, “Why didn't you fall prostrate when I commanded you?”
-16 Iblis said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire; he was created from mud. Leave me alone so I can mislead those who are on the right path.”
Allah said, “Sure go ahead and do that. I'll fill hell with those who follow you.”
Adam and his (nameless) wife didn't know they were naked until they ate from the tree.
Allah said to them, “From now on, you will be enemies.”
We have chosen devils to be the protecting friends of disbelievers. 30 The disbelievers chose devils to be their protecting friends.
Those who deny and scorn our revelations will own and live in the fire.
What is the worst thing anyone can do? Tell lies about Allah or deny his tokens. That's what disbelievers do.
Entire nations of the jinn have been tormented with fire. Allah said, “Give them a double torment of the fire. For each there is a double torment.”
Those who deny our revelations and scorn them will have a bed of hell.
Those in the fire will be taunted by those in the Garden, who will say to them, “So how's it going down there? Are you enjoying the warmth of the Fire?”
Then the garden-dwellers will say to Allah, “Don't throw us in the fire.”
The fire-dwellers will call out to the garden-dwellers, “Pour some water on us.” But the garden-dwellers will say to them, “Allah has forbidden water for disbelievers.”
That's what happens to people who consider religion a sport and a pastime, and who deny our tokens.
-61 We sent Noah, who said to the people, “Serve Allah or an awful day will come. I'm a messenger of the Lord of the worlds.”
But the people didn't listen, so we drowned them all for denying our tokens. (Except for those in Noah's ship.)
We sent Hud to the tribe of A'ad, saying, “Won't you ward off evil?”
The chieftains were disbelieving liars.
So Hud said, “I'm a messenger of the Lord of the worlds. 69 Remember how Allah made you tall after Noah's flood?”
The people of A'ad said,” So you expect us to worship Allah alone and reject the religion of our fathers? Go ahead and kill us then.”
Hud replied, “Terror and wrath from Allah has already fallen on you.”
We killed those who denied our revelations.
We sent Salih, who said to the tribe of Thamud, “Here is a camel from Allah. It's a token for you. Don't touch her and let her eat whatever she wants -- or you'll be painfully tormented.”
The scornful said, “We don't believe what you believe.”
And they hamstrung the she-cattle and said, "Do what you threatened to do."
So an earthquake came and killed them all.
-81 Remember when Lot said to his people, “Will you commit an abomination that no creature has ever done before you? You lust after men instead of women. You're bad folks.”
We rescued Lot and his household, except for his wife, who stayed behind. 84 Then we sent rain to rain upon them.
We sent Shu'eyb to Midian. He said to them, “Serve Allah.”
The leaders of Midian said, “We're going to force you to leave, unless you return to our religion.”
Shu'eyb said, “I hate your religion. So I'll stick with Allah.”
The disbelieving Midian leaders said to the people, “If you follow Shu'eyb, then you are losers.”
Then an earthquake came and killed them all. So it turned out that the people of Midian were the losers.
Then Shu'eyb said to all of the dead Midianites, “See, I told you so.”
