0 The natural use of the woman (Romans 1-6)

Episode 278: The natural use of the woman

Romans 1-6

I'd like to come visit you

1-7 This a letter from Paul about Jesus, the Son of God, who is a descendant of David according to the flesh, to everyone in Rome.

10 I'm asking you for your assistance so that I can come to visit you.

15 I'm ready to preach the gospel to you in Rome.

The gospel saves

16 The gospel of Christ saves everyone who believes in it; first the Jews, then the Greeks.

17 Because it's written, "Just people live by faith."

Everyone is evil (especially atheists and homosexuals)

18 The wrath of God is toward all ungodliness and unrighteousness.

19 God has made his existence known by the things he's created.

20 So those who don't believe in him have no excuse.

21 They knew God but didn't glorify or thank him. Their thoughts were useless, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22 They thought they were wise but became fools.

23 They made images of people, birds, beasts, and creeping things.

24 So God let them become unclean, by following own their hearts.

25 They cared more for creatures than the creator.

26 So God let them follow their own desires. Their women changed their natural use into something unnatural.

27 And the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, lusted for one another, and getting the punishment they deserved.

28 So God gave them up to their reprobate minds.

29 They became filled with fornication, wickedness, maliciousness, envy, murder.

30 Whisperers, backbiters, God haters, despiteful, proud, inventors of evil things, disobedient children.

31 Without understanding, natural affection, unmerciful.

32 People who do things like that should be killed, as should anyone who takes pleasure in their bad behavior.

Don't judge other people

2 1 Who are you to judge other people?

When you condemn others, you condemn yourself, because you do the same things they do.

You will be judged according to your deeds

3 Do you think you can escape the judgment of God?

6 God will judge everyone according to their deeds.

11 God has no respect for anyone.

13 Those who obey the law will be justified.

16 God will judge your secrets by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Don't be a hypocrite

21 Whatever you tell others to do, you should do yourself.

About circumcision

25 If you are circumcised and you break the law, your circumcision is undone.

26 If you are uncircumcised and you keep the law, you are counted as circumcised.

Everyone is evil (we are justified by faith)

3 5 Is God evil for taking vengeance? (I speak as a man.)

6 God forbid! How else could God judge the world?

7 And if my lie advances God's truth, then why am I called a sinner?

8 I 'm not saying (as some slanderously say I am), "Let's do evil, so good may come from it." Their damnation is just.

10 There has never been a righteous person.

11 No one understands anything. No one seeks God.

12 Everyone has gone astray. No one ever does anything good.

13 Everyone lies, curses, murders, destroys, causes misery, and avoids peace.

20 Obeying God's law does not make a person acceptable to God.

23 Everyone has sinned and is beneath God's glory.

28 We are justified by faith, not by obeying God's laws.

31 So does our faith destroy God's laws? No, we still must obey them.

Abraham was justified by faith

4 1 But what about Abraham?

2 If he was justified by his works, then he would deserve glory, not God.

5 What a person does doesn't matter to God. Only faith makes a person righteous.

6 God judges people without considering their actions.

13 God's promise to Abraham wasn't made to him for following God's law. It was made because of Abraham's faith.

Justified with his blood, saved from his wrath

5 1 We are justified by faith.

9 Since we are justified by his blood, we'll be saved from his wrath.

10 We are reconciled to God by the death of his son.

12 Sin entered the world through one man, and death by sin. So death passed to everyone.

14 Everyone died from Adam to Moses, even those who didn't sin.

18 Everyone is condemned because of the act of one man.

19 Everyone became a sinner when one man disobeyed. Then everyone becomes righteous when one man obeys.

20 God created the law so that there'd be lots of offences.

But where there's lots of sin, there's lots of grace.

You're no longer under the law

6 1 OK then, should we sin a lot, so there'll be lots of grace?

2 No, since we're dead to sin, how can we live in it?

4 We were buried with Jesus in baptism.

5 We will be raised in his resurrection.

14 You no longer need to follow the law, because you're now under grace.

23 The wages of sin is death.
