171 One of the seven angels that had the seven vials said to me,
Come over here. I'll show you the great whore that sits on many waters.
2 The kings of the earth have fornicated with her, and everyone is drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 The angel carried me into the wilderness where I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored beast with seven heads and ten horns, full of blasphemous names.
4 The woman had a golden cup in her hand, filled with the abominations and filthiness of her fornication.
18 Eat the flesh of kings, captains, and mighty men.
Eat the flesh of horses and their riders.
Eat the flesh of all men, slaves and free, great and small.
20 The beast and false prophet were cast alive into the lake of fire and brimstone.
21 The survivors were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of him who sat on the horse. And their flesh was eaten by the fowls.

The great whore that sits on many waters (17:1)
Most modern scholars say that the whore of Babylon represents the Roman Empire, but Luther, Calvin, and the other Protestant reformers identified her as the Catholic church. There are, of course, many other views. Some sedevacantists say she is the post Vatican II church, and the Jehovah's Witnesses say she represents all non JW religions.
