0 Animal Sacrifices: All the fat is the Lord's (Lev 1-4)

Episode 43 - Animal Sacrifices: All the fat is the Lord's

(Leviticus 1-4)

The burnt offering: a sweet savor to God

1 1 God said to Moses from the tabernacle,

3 Get an unblemished male bull, ram, or sheep.

5 Kill it in front of me and have the priests sprinkle its blood round about the altar.

6 Flay the burnt offering, and cut it into pieces.

8 Burn the head and the fat in the fire on the altar.

9 Wash the internal organs in water and burn them on the altar for a sweet savor to me.

14 If a bird is sacrificed to me, it should be a dove or a pigeon.

15 The priest will wring off its head and wring out the blood.

16 Pluck out its crop and feathers, tear off the wings, but don't chop the body into pieces.

17 The priest will burn it on the altar for a sweet savor to me.

The meat offering: it is most holy

2 1 Meat offerings should include flour, oil, and frankincense.

4 If it's baked in the oven, include some unleavened cakes or wafers anointed with oil.

7 If it's cooked in a frying pan, use flour and oil.

9-10 Whatever is leftover is for Aaron and his sons.

Meat offerings smell good and are most holy to me.

The peace offering: all the fat is the Lord's

3 1 If a bull or a cow is sacrificed to me as a peace offering, it must be unblemished.

2 Kill it and sprinkle its blood on the altar round about.

3-4 Take the fat that covers the internal organs, the kidneys, and the liver, and burn them on the altar. 5 It is a sweet savor to me.

16 All the fat is the Lord's.

17 Don't eat fat or blood. This is a perpetual statute for you.

Sins through ignorance: sprinkle the blood seven times before me

4 1-2 If you sin through ignorance, bring a young unblemished bull to me for a sin offering.

3-5 The priest will kill it, dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle it seven times in front of me.

7 He will put some of the blood on the horns of the altar and pour the blood at the bottom of the altar.

8 He shall take all the fat for a sin offering, including the fat that is on the internal organs, the liver, and the kidneys.

10 And he will burn the fat on the altar.

11 And he will take the skin, flesh, head, legs, internal organs, and dung outside the camp to a clean place and burn them.

13 If the whole congregation sins through ignorance, offer a young bullock for the sin.

15 Kill the bullock in front of me.

16 The priest will dip his finger in the bullock's blood, and sprinkle it seven times in front of me.

18 He will put some of the blood on the horns of the altar and pour the rest of the blood at the bottom of the altar.

19 And he'll burn all the fat on the altar.

20 And I'll forgive the congregation for their sins of ignorance.
