For whom the law was made (homosexuals and mother murderers mostly)
9-10 The law wasn't made for righteous people, but godless murderers of fathers and mothers, liars, perjurers, whoremongers, those who defile themselves with mankind, and those who steal slaves.
I delivered Hymeneus and Alexander to Satan (to teach them not to blaspheme)
12 I thank Jesus for counting me faithful and making me a minister.
13 I used to be a blasphemer and persecutor, but I was forgiven, because I was an ignorant unbeliever.
20 I've delivered Hymeneus and Alexander to Satan, to teach them not to blaspheme.
I'm an ordained preacher and apostle (I'm not lying about that)
21-4 Pray for everyone, because God wants everyone to be saved.
5-6 The man Jesus is the only mediator between God and humans, who gave himself to ransom everyone.
7 I am an ordained preacher and apostle. (I'm not lying about that.)
Women may not teach or have authority over men (but they'll be saved by having babies)
At about 12:45 in the podcast, Carole mentioned a story about young men who had to set tables and care for neglected widows. I'd forgotten about that, but she is referring to Acts 6:1-7 (Episode 271).
From Paul to Timothy (1:1)
First Timothy is one of the Pastoral Epistles (the others are 2 Timothy and Titus), which nearly all scholars agree were not written by Paul, but by one of his disciples several decades after his death.
Those who steal slaves (1:17)
This verse is often used to claim that the Bible is anti-slavery. But it doesn't. It condemns those who steal slaves, not those who own them.
We know that the author of 1 Timothy approved of slavery itself, since he told slaves to obey their masters in 6:1-2.
Hymeneus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan (1:20)
Hymeneus was a babbler who said that the resurrection of the dead has already happened (2 Tim 2:17) and Alexander was a coppersmith who did the author of 2 Timothy "much evil" (2 Tim 4:14). Now they belong to Satan.
