109. To kill or not to kill.


Ecclesiastes tells us that there is a time to kill.
For everything there is a season ... a time to kill. Ecclesiastes 3:1-3
God commands us to kill certain people. Among these are witches, male homosexuals, non-virgin brides, blasphemers, sabbath breakers, and disobedient children.
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Exodus 22:18

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13

If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her ... and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city ... But if ... the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die. Deuteronomy 22:13-21

He that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him. Leviticus 24:16

Ye shall keep the sabbath ... every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death. Exodus 31:14

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die. Deuteronomy 21:18-21

And God often killed people himself (or told others to do it for him). Here are just a few of of God's killings in the Bible.
I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. ... And all flesh died that moved upon the earth. Genesis 7:4-21

At midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon ... and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. Exodus 12:29-30

Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side ... and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor. Exodus 32:27

And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. Numbers 11:1

And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Numbers 21:5-6

Thus saith the Lord of hosts ... go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare him not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. 1 Samuel 15:2-3

Don't Kill

Don't kill anyone for any reason.
Thou shalt not kill. Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17

Do not kill. Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20

Well, don't murder anyone, anyway.
Thou shalt do no murder. Matthew 19:18
Or kill any innocent or righteous people.
The innocent and righteous slay thou not. Exodus 23:7
