Doctrine & Covenants: Selected Verses

    Section 133

  1. His voice shall be heard: I have trodden the wine. 133:50
  2. I have trampled them in my fury, and I did tread upon them in mine anger, and their blood have I sprinkled upon my garments, and stained all my raiment; for this was the day of vengeance which was in my heart. 133:51
  3. The graves of the saints shall be opened ...and they shall sing the song of the Lamb. 133:56
  4. The day cometh that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up. 133:64

  7. Section 134

  8. We do not believe that human law has a right to interfere in prescribing rules of worship to bind the consciences of men, nor dictate forms for public or private devotion. 134:4
  9. We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, while protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws of such governments; and that sedition and rebellion are unbecoming every citizen thus protected, and should be punished accordingly; and that all governments have a right to enact such laws as in their own judgments are best calculated to secure the public interest; at the same time, however, holding sacred the freedom of conscience. 134:5
  10. To the laws all men owe respect and deference. 134:6
  11. We believe that rulers, states, and governments have a right, and are bound to enact laws for the protection of all citizens in the free exercise of their religious belief; but we do not believe that they have a right in justice to deprive citizens of this privilege, or proscribe them in their opinions, so long as a regard and reverence are shown to the laws and such religious opinions do not justify sedition nor conspiracy. 134:7
  12. We believe that the commission of crime should be punished. 134:8
  13. We do not believe it just to mingle religious influence with civil government, whereby one religious society is fostered and another proscribed in its spiritual privileges, and the individual rights of its members, as citizens, denied. 134:9
  14. We do not believe it right to interfere with bond. 134:12
  15. Section 135

  16. Joseph Smith ... has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived. 135:3
  17. Section 136

  18. Fear not thine enemies, for they are in mine hands and I will do my pleasure with them. 136:30
  19. Thy brethren have rejected you and your testimony, even the nation that has driven you out; And now cometh the day of their calamity ... and their sorrow shall be great unless they speedily repent. 136:34
  20. Joseph Smith, whom I did call upon by mine angels, my ministering servants, and by mine own voice out of the heavens, to bring forth my work. 136:37

  23. Section 137

  24. The heavens were opened upon us, and I beheld the celestial kingdom of God, and the glory thereof, whether in the body or out I cannot tell. 137:1
  25. I saw ... the gate through which the heirs of that kingdom will enter, which was like unto circling flames of fire; Also the blazing throne of God, whereon was seated the Father and the Son. 137:2
  26. I saw the beautiful streets of that kingdom, which had the appearance of being paved with gold. 137:4
  27. I saw Father Adam and Abraham; and my father and my mother; my brother Alvin, that has long since slept; And marveled how it was that he had obtained an inheritance in that kingdom, seeing that he had departed this life before the Lord had set his hand to gather Israel the second time, and had not been baptized. 137:5
  28. Thus came the voice of the Lord unto me, saying: All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom. 137:7
  29. All that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom. 137:8
  30. I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts. 137:9
  31. I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven. 137:10
  32. Section 138

  33. As I pondered over these things which are written, the eyes of my understanding were opened, and the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me, and I saw the hosts of the dead. 138:11
  34. While this vast multitude waited and conversed, rejoicing in the hour of their deliverance from the chains of death, the Son of God appeared ... And there he preached to them. 138:18
  35. Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died. 138:32
  36. Joseph Smith, and my father, Hyrum Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, and other choice spirits who were reserved to come forth in the fulness of times to take part in ... the building of the temples ... for the redemption of the dead, were also in the spirit world. 138:53
  37. Even before they were born, they, with many others, received their first lessons in the world of spirits. 138:56
  38. I beheld that the faithful elders ... preaching ... in the great world of the spirits of the dead. 138:57
  39. Thus was the vision of the redemption of the dead ... and I know that this record is true . 138:60
