Someday Jesus will drink wine with you and Moroni (27-29)

Episode 84: Someday Jesus will drink wine with you and Moroni

Doctrine and Covenants 27-29

Section 27

Revelation to Joseph Smith, Harmony, Pennsylvania, August 1830

Make your own wine for the sacrament (don't buy it from your enemies)

1 Listen to Jesus. 2 It doesn't matter what you eat or drink in the sacrament. 3 But here's a commandment that I give to you: Don't buy wine or strong drink from your enemies. 4 Make your own wine and strong drinks.

Someday Jesus will drink wine with you and Moroni

5 This is wise of me [Jesus], so don't be surprised when I'm drinking wine with you and Moroni, whom I sent to reveal the Book of Mormon, which contains the gospel, and to whom I gave the keys to the stick of Ephraim. 6 And also Elias, whom I gave the keys to everything the prophets have said about the last days. 7-8 And John the Baptist, whom I sent to ordain Joseph Smith, Jr. and Oliver Cowdery to the priesthood. 9 And Elijah, whom I gave the keys to turning the hearts of fathers and sons to each other to prevent the whole earth from being smitten with a curse. 10 And Joseph, Jacob, Issac, and Abraham. 11 And with Michael (aka Adam), the father and prince of all, the ancient of days. 12 And with Peter, James, and John, whom I sent to you, and by whom I have ordained you and confirmed you to be apostles. 13 Unto whom I have committed the keys of my kingdom. 14 And those that my Father gave me out of the world. 15 So gird up your loins so you can withstand the evil day. 18 Amen.

Section 28

Revelation through Joseph Smith to Oliver Cowdery Fayette, New York, September 1830

Only Joseph Smith receives commandments (Not you, Oliver Cowdery)

1 I [God] say to you, Oliver [Cowdery], that whatever you teach the church is okay with me. 2 But only Joseph Smith, Jr. receives revelations and commandments from me - just like Moses did. 3 And you must obey the commandments and believe the revelations that I give to him. 4 So go ahead and teach. 5 But don't claim you've received any commandments. 6 And don't tell Joseph Smith what to do. 7 I've given him the keys to the mysteries and revelations, and only he will have them until I appoint someone else to replace him.

Go preach to the Lamanites

8 I'm sending you to preach to the Lamanites. You'll have some revelations, but no commandments. 9 No one knows where the city of Zion will be built, but it'll be somewhere near the Lamanites. 10 Don't leave until after the conference, over which Joseph Smith will preside.

God didn't reveal anything through Hiram Page's stone (Satan deceived him)

11 Tell Hiram Page that I didn't write the things that were written from that stone. Satan deceived him. 16 Keep your mouth open all the time. Amen.

Section 29

Revelation to Joseph Smith, Fayette, New York, September 1830

Listen to the voice of Jesus, the great I am

1 Listen to the voice of Jesus, the great I am.

God will send flies and maggots to eat the wicked

8 Soon I [Jesus] will burn all the wicked people. 11 Then I'll reveal myself and dwell on earth for a thousand years. 13 After that, a trumpet will sound, the earth will quake, and dead bodies will come alive. 14 But before any of that happens, the sun will darken, the moon will turn into blood, and stars will fall. 15 And there'll be weeping and wailing, 16 with great hailstorms that will destroy crops.17 And I'll take vengeance on the wicked. 18 Then I, God, will send flies and maggots to eat their flesh. 19 Their flesh will fall from their bones and their eyes from their sockets. 20 Then the birds and beasts will eat them.

The great and abominable church will burn

21 And the great and abominable church, the whore of all the earth, will be burned.

All the dead people will come forth

22 When the thousand years are over, and people begin to deny God, I'll spare the earth for a while. 23 Then the end will come, heaven and earth will be destroyed, and there'll be a new heaven and earth. 26 Before the earth is destroyed, Michael my archangel will blow his trumpet, and all the dead people will come forth. 27 The righteous dead will be on my right side, and the wicked on my left. 28 And I'll say, “Go you cursed people to burn forever in the fire.”

Those who don't believe will be damned

36 The devil existed before Adam and rebelled against me, along with one-third of the heavenly ghosts. 37 And they were thrust down to hell. 39 The devil had to tempt people or they couldn't be free. If you can't taste the bitter things, you can't taste the sweet. 40 So the devil tempted Adam, Adam ate the forbidden fruit and became subject to the will of the devil. 44 Those who don't believe will be damned, 45 because they obey the devil and do evil things. 46 Except for little children. They are all redeemed by my only begotten. 47 Because I haven't given power to Satan to tempt them yet. 50 And that's all I have to say about that. Amen.
