Moroni writes a few more things (Moroni 1-6)

Episode 68: Moroni writes a few more things

Moroni 1-6

1 1 Moroni finishes up his abridged version of Ether's account of the Jaredite adventure. He wasn't going to bother with it, but he figured that since those nasty Lamanites (Native Americans) hadn't killed him yet, he might as well write stuff down.

2 The Lamanites are filled with hatred. They kill each other in wars and they kill every Nephite they can find who refuses to deny Christ.

3-4 Since Moroni won't deny Christ, he wanders around hoping the Lamanites don't catch him. In the meantime, he plans to write a few more things so that the Lamanites will have something to read after they kill him.

The secret words of Jesus

2 1-3 Sometime between 400 and 421 CE, Jesus put his hands on each of his twelve North American disciples. He called them each by their name and told them to pray to the Father in his name in mighty prayer. After their mighty prayer, they'll have the power to put their hands on other people and give them the Holy Ghost in Jesus's name. Jesus supposedly said these things in secret to the twelve apostles; no one else heard him, certainly not Moroni who is telling us what Jesus said here.

How to ordain priests and teachers

3 1-4 It's pretty easy. Pray to the Father in the name of Christ, put your hands on the candidates, and say, "In the name of Jesus Christ I ordain you to be a priest, (or, if he be a teacher) I ordain you to be a teacher." That's how the disciples (who were called the elders of the church) did it.

After the Lamanites kill Moroni and read these simple instructions, they'll be able to make priests and teachers too.

The flesh and blood of Christ

4 1-3 These instructions are provided by Moroni, but they are taken from the commandments of Christ, so you know they're true.

Here's the way it's done: Kneel down with the church and pray to the Father in the name of Christ, saying: "O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it; that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.” That's all there is to it.

Administering the wine water

5 1-2 This one’s a piece of cake. (Just remember to use water instead of wine for Jesus's blood. Moroni forgot to mention that.)

Here's how it's done: Take the cup (of water) and say: "O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee, in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit to be with them. Amen."

Baptism, meetings, and excommunications

6 1-4 Moroni tells the Lamanites about how the Nephites baptized people. First the elders, priests, and teachers were baptized, and then everyone else after proving themselves worthy. The newly-baptized people then were cleaned with the Holy Ghost, and put on the church directory.

5-6 The church had regular meetings to fast, pray, tell each other about how their souls were doing, to eat bread, drink wine water, and remember Jesus.

7-8 Church members who did something wrong were publicly condemned and excommunicated, if three members of the church testified against them.

9 The meetings were run by the Holy Ghost. They preached, prayed, or sang whenever and however the Holy Ghost told them to.
