Was Abraham justified by faith or works?
He was justified by faith. He was justified by works.
Romans 4:2
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory.
James 2:21
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
The Biblically Correct answer: Abraham was justified by works.

Since there is a tie, we need to find a way to break it -- using the Bible, of course. And luckily there is one! We can use the Biblically Correct answer to the question, Is salvation by faith alone?, which we've already answered in the negative. Salvation is not by faith alone.

So Paul was wrong and James was right. Abraham was justified by works when he showed his willingness to kill his son for God.
