    1 Nephi

  1. Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians. - 1 Nephi 1:2
  2. And it came to pass that I was constrained by the Spirit that I should kill Laban. - 1 Nephi 4:10
  3. And it came to pass that the Spirit said unto me again: Slay him. - 1 Nephi 4:12
  4. The Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief. - 1 Nephi 4:13
  5. Therefore I did obey the voice of the Spirit, and took Laban by the hair of the head, and I smote off his head with his own sword. - 1 Nephi 4:18
  6. And it came to pass that I beheld a tree, whose fruit was desirable to make one happy. 8:10
  7. Behold, I have dreamed a dream; or, in other words, I have seen a vision. - 1 Nephi 8:2
  8. The plates ... I have given the name of Nephi; wherefore, they are called the plates of Nephi, after mine own name; and these plates also are called the plates of Nephi. - 1 Nephi 9:2
  9. I beheld a virgin, and she was exceedingly fair and white. - 1 Nephi 11:13
  10. And it came to pass ... after they had dwindled in unbelief they became a dark, and loathsome, and a filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations. - 1 Nephi 12:23
  11. And it came to pass that I beheld this great and abominable church; and I saw the devil that he was the founder of it. - 1 Nephi 13:6
  12. The Spirit of the Lord ... was upon the Gentiles, ... and I beheld that they were white, and exceedingly fair and beautiful, like unto my people. - 1 Nephi 13:15
  13. The plain and most precious parts of the gospel of the Lamb ... have been kept back by that abominable church. - 1 Nephi 13:32
  14. Behold that great and abominable church, which is the mother of abominations, whose founder is the devil. - 1 Nephi 14:9
  15. There are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil - 1 Nephi 14:10
  16. Whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth. - 1 Nephi 14:10
  17. The wrath of God is poured out upon the mother of harlots, which is the great and abominable church of all the earth, whose founder is the devil. - 1 Nephi 14:17
  18. I, Nephi, took one of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also, my brethren took of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also Zoram took the eldest daughter of Ishmael to wife. - 1 Nephi 16:7
  19. A round ball of curious workmanship; and it was of fine brass. And within the ball were two spindles; and the one pointed the way whither we should go into the wilderness. - 1 Nephi 16:10
  20. We did follow the directions of the ball, which led us in the more fertile parts of the wilderness. - 1 Nephi 16:16
  21. I did break my bow, which was made of fine steel. - 1 Nephi 16:18
  22. My father began to murmur against the Lord his God. - 1 Nephi 16:20
  23. So great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck. - 1 Nephi 17:2
  24. The Lord ... said: I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not. - 1 Nephi 17:12
  25. Now I, Nephi, did not work the timbers after the manner which was learned by men, neither did I build the ship after the manner of men; but I did build it after the manner which the Lord had shown unto me; wherefore, it was not after the manner of men. - 1 Nephi 18:2
  26. And it came to pass that ... the compass, which had been prepared of the Lord, did cease to work. - 1 Nephi 18:12
  27. After we had sailed for the space of many days we did arrive at the promised land ... and we did call it the promised land. - 1 Nephi 18:23
  28. There were beasts in the forests of every kind, both the cow and the ox, and the ass and the horse, and the goat and the wild goat, and all manner of wild animals, which were for the use of men. - 1 Nephi 18:25
  29. I do not write anything upon plates save it be that I think it be sacred. And now, if I do err, even did they err of old; not that I would excuse myself because of other men. - 1 Nephi 19:6
  30. And kings shall be thy nursing fathers. - 1 Nephi 21:23
  31. And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; they shall be drunken with their own blood as with sweet wine. - 1 Nephi 21:26

    2 Nephi

  36. A choice seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and he shall be esteemed highly among the fruit of thy loins. And unto him will I give commandment that he shall do a work for the fruit of thy loins - 2 Nephi 3:7
  37. Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, ... establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins. - 2 Nephi 3:12
  38. And the Lord said unto me also: I will raise up unto the fruit of thy loins; and I will make for him a spokesman. And I, behold, I will give unto him that he shall write the writing of the fruit of thy loins, unto the fruit of thy loins; and the spokesman of thy loins shall declare it. - 2 Nephi 3:18
  39. I, Nephi, did take my family, and also Zoram and his family, and Sam, mine elder brother and his family, and Jacob and Joseph, my younger brethren, and also my sisters. - 2 Nephi 5:6
  40. He had caused the cursing to come upon them ... wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them. - 2 Nephi 5:21
  41. And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. - 2 Nephi 5:23
  42. And because of their cursing which was upon them they did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, and did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey. - 2 Nephi 5:24

  44. If ... they shall repent and fight not against Zion, and do not unite themselves to that great and abominable church, they shall be saved. - 2 Nephi 6:12
  45. They that believe not in him shall be destroyed, both by fire, and by tempest, and by earthquakes, and by bloodsheds, and by pestilence, and by famine. - 2 Nephi 6:15
  46. And I will feed them that oppress thee, with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood as with sweet wine. - 2 Nephi 6:18
  47. We become devils ... and to remain with the father of lies ... who ... stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations. - 2 Nephi 9:9
  48. Their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end. - 2 Nephi 9:16
  49. Hell ... is endless torment. - 2 Nephi 9:16, 26
  50. They who are filthy shall be filthy still. - 2 Nephi 9:16
  51. If they will not repent and believe ... they must be damned. - 2 Nephi 9:24
  52. Behold, I take off my garments, and I shake them before you. - 2 Nephi 9:44
  53. Many of our children shall perish in the flesh because of unbelief - 2 Nephi 10:2
  54. The Jews ... are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify him ... there is none other nation on earth that would crucify their God. - 2 Nephi 10:3
  55. The kings of the Gentiles shall be nursing fathers. - 2 Nephi 10:9
  56. He that fighteth against Zion ... shall perish; for they are they who are the whore of all the earth. - 2 Nephi 10:16
  57. I will consecrate this land unto thy seed ... forever, for the land of their inheritance; for it is a choice land, saith God unto me, above all other lands. - 2 Nephi 10:19
  58. Great are the promises of the Lord unto them who are upon the isles of the sea; wherefore as it says isles, there must needs be more than this, and they are inhabited also by our brethren. - 2 Nephi 10:21
  59. And now I, Nephi, write more of the words of Isaiah, for my soul delighteth in his words. - 2 Nephi 11:2
  60. Their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls. - 2 Nephi 13:9
  61. The Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts. - 2 Nephi 13:17

  76. Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquities of their fathers - 2 Nephi 24:21
  77. Out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. - 2 Nephi 24:29
  78. The Jews; for their works were works of darkness, and their doings were doings of abominations. - 2 Nephi 25:2
  79. My soul delighteth in the words of Isaiah. - 2 Nephi 25:5
  80. Wo unto them that fight against God and the people of his church. - 2 Nephi 25:14
  81. The Lord ... will proceed to do a marvelous work and a wonder. - 2 Nephi 25:17
  82. All those who have dwindled in unbelief shall not be forgotten. - 2 Nephi 26:15
  83. There are also secret combinations, even as in times of old, according to the combinations of the devil. - 2 Nephi 26:22
  84. In the last days ... the Gentiles and also the Jews ... will be drunken with iniquity and all manner of abominations. - 2 Nephi 27:1
  85. God shall bring forth unto you the words of a book .... and behold the book shall be sealed. - 2 Nephi 27:6-7
  86. The book shall be hid from the eyes of the world, that the eyes of none shall behold it save it be that three witnesses shall behold it. - 2 Nephi 27:12
  87. Wo be unto him that rejecteth the word of God! - 2 Nephi 27:14
  88. I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, yea, a marvelous work and a wonder. - 2 Nephi 27:26
  89. Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil. - 2 Nephi 28:23
  90. Wo be unto him that shall say: We have received the word of God, and we need no more of the word of God, for we have enough! - 2 Nephi 28:29
  91. I shall proceed to do a marvelous work. - 2 Nephi 29:1
  92. The Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible. - 2 Nephi 29:3
  93. Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. - 2 Nephi 29:6
  94. Many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a pure and delightsome people. - 2 Nephi 30:6
  95. And it shall come to pass that the Jews ... shall begin to believe in Christ and ... shall also become a delightsome people. - 2 Nephi 30:7
  96. With the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. - 2 Nephi 30:9
  97. I, Nephi, cannot say more; the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance. - 2 Nephi 32:7
  98. I, Nephi, have written what I have written, and I esteem it as of great worth. - 2 Nephi 33:3
  99. No man will be angry at the words which I have written save he shall be of the spirit of the devil. - 2 Nephi 33:5
  100. If ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me. - 2 Nephi 33:10


  101. And now it came to pass that the people of Nephi ... began to ... indulge themselves somewhat in wicked practices, such as like unto David of old desiring many wives and concubines. - Jacob 1:15
  102. God ... can pierce you, and with one glance of his eye he can smite you to the dust! - Jacob 2:14-15
  103. David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord. - Jacob 2:24
  104. There shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none. - Jacob 2:27
  105. I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. - Jacob 2:28
  106. The Lamanites ... ye hate because of their filthiness and the cursing which hath come upon their skins. - Jacob 3:5
  107. Unless ye shall repent of your sins that their skins will be whiter than yours. - Jacob 3:8
  108. The darkness of their skins ... their filthiness came because of their fathers. - Jacob 3:9
  109. I cannot write but a little of my words, because of the difficulty of engraving our words upon plates. - Jacob 4:1
  110. We knew of Christ ... many hundred years before his coming. - Jacob 4:4
  111. We truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea. - Jacob 4:6
  112. The Jews were a stiffnecked people; and they despised the words of plainness, and killed the prophets, and sought for things that they could not understand. Wherefore ... God hath taken away his plainness from them. - Jacob 4:14
  113. Will ye reject these words? ... If ye will do these things ... ye must go away into that lake of fire and brimstone, whose flames are unquenchable, and whose smoke ascendeth up forever and ever, which lake of fire and brimstone is endless tormen.t - Jacob 6:10
  114. Finally, I bid you farewell, until I shall meet you before the pleasing bar of God, which bar striketh the wicked with awful dread and fear. Amen. - Jacob 6:13
  115. If God shall smite thee, let that be a sign unto thee. - Jacob 7:14

The Lamanites ... hatred was fixed, and they were led by their evil nature that they became wild, and ferocious, and a bloodthirsty people, full of idolatry and filthiness; feeding upon beasts of prey; dwelling in tents, and wandering about in the wilderness with a short skin girdle about their loins and their heads shaven ... And many of them did eat nothing save it was raw meat. - Enos 20,

  120. Now behold, I, Jarom, write a few words according to the commandment of my father, Enos, that our genealogy may be kept. - Jarom 1

  127. And it came to pass that I, Omni, being commanded by my father, Jarom, that I should write somewhat upon these plates, to preserve our genealogy. - Omni 1

  169. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings. - Mosiah 12:21
  170. God shall smite you if ye lay your hands upon me. - Mosiah 13:3
  171. Now it came to pass after Abinadi had spoken these words ... his face shone with exceeding luster, even as Moses' did while in the mount of Sinai. - Mosiah 13:5
  172. The time shall come when it shall no more be expedient to keep the law of Moses. - Mosiah 13:27
  173. Did not Moses prophesy unto them concerning the coming of the Messiah? - Mosiah 13:33
  174. The Son of God ... being the Father and the Son -- they are one God. - Mosiah 15:2-4
  175. If Christ had not come into the world, speaking of things to come as though they had already come, there could have been no redemption. - Mosiah 16:6
  176. Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father. - Mosiah 16:15
  177. As many as did believe him did go forth to a place which was called Mormon, having received its name from the king ... the land having been infested ... by wild beasts. - Mosiah 18:4
  178. All this was done in Mormon, yea, by the waters of Mormon, in the forest that was near the waters of Mormon; yea, the place of Mormon, the waters of Mormon, the forest of Mormon. - Mosiah 18:30
  179. In the morning the Lord caused a deep sleep to come upon the Lamanites ... And Alma and his people departed into the wilderness. - Mosiah 24:19-20

  186. Alma

  187. He [Nehor] also testified unto the people that all mankind should be saved at the last day, and that they need not fear nor tremble, but that they might lift up their heads and rejoice; for the Lord had created all men, and had also redeemed all men; and, in the end, all men should have eternal life. - Alma 1:4
  188. Those who did not belong to their church did indulge themselves in sorceries, and in idolatry or idleness, and in babblings, and in envyings and strife; wearing costly apparel; being lifted up in the pride of their own eyes; persecuting, lying, thieving, robbing, committing whoredoms, and murdering, and all manner of wickedness. - Alma 1:32
  189. The Lord did strengthen the hand of the Nephites, that they slew the Amlicites with great slaughter. - Alma 2:18
  190. The Nephites being strengthened by the hand of the Lord, having prayed mightily to him that he would deliver them out of the hands of their enemies, therefore the Lord did hear their cries, and did strengthen them, and the Lamanites and the Amlicites did fall before them. - Alma 2:28

  192. Now the heads of the Lamanites were shorn; and they were naked, save it were skin which was girded about their loins. - Alma 3:5
  193. The skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men. - Alma 3:6
  194. They were cursed; and the Lord God set a mark upon them, yea, upon Laman and Lemuel, and also the sons of Ishmael, and Ishmaelitish women. - Alma 3:7
  195. This was done that their seed might be distinguished from the seed of their brethren ... that they might not mix. - Alma 3:8
  196. Whosoever did mingle his seed with that of the Lamanites did bring the same curse upon his seed. - Alma 3:9

  205. Alma ... went ... into the valley of Gideon, there having been a city built, which was called the city of Gideon, which was in the valley that was called Gideon. - Alma 6:7
  206. I attempt to address you in my language; yea, by my own mouth, seeing that it is the first time that I have spoken unto you by the words of my mouth. - Alma 7:1
  207. I trust that ye are not in a state of so much unbelief. - Alma 7:6

  231. They [the Lamanites] were a very indolent people, many of whom did worship idols, and the curse of God had fallen upon them because of the traditions of their fathers. Alma 17:15

  254. Ye cannot know of things which ye do not see; therefore ye cannot know that there shall be a Christ. Alma 30:15
  255. It is the effect of a frenzied mind; and this derangement of your minds comes because of the traditions of your fathers, which lead you away into a belief of things which are not so. Alma 30:16
  256. When a man was dead, that was the end thereof. Alma 30:18
  257. Ye say that those ancient prophecies are true. Behold, I say that ye do not know that they are true. Alma 30:24
  258. Ye say that this people is a guilty and a fallen people, because of the transgression of a parent. Behold, I say that a child is not guilty because of its parents. Alma 30:25
  259. Ye also say that Christ shall come. But behold, I say that ye do not know that there shall be a Christ. Alma 30:26
  260. Ye lead away this people after the foolish traditions of your fathers. Alma 30:27
  261. God -- a being who never has been seen or known, who never was nor ever will be. Alma 30:28
  262. God shall smite thee, that thou shalt become dumb, that thou shalt never open thy mouth any more, that thou shalt not deceive this people any more. Alma 30:47
  263. I do not believe that there is a God; and I say also, that ye do not know that there is a God. Alma 30:48
  264. I give unto thee for a sign, that thou shalt be struck dumb. Alma 30:49
  265. When Alma had said these words, Korihor was struck dumb. Alma 30:50
  266. The curse was not taken off of Korihor; but he was cast out, and went about from house to house begging for his food. Alma 30:56
  267. Those who had believed in the words of Korihor that they must speedily repent, lest the same judgments would come unto them. Alma 30:57
  268. Thus we see that the devil will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell. Alma 30:60
  269. Holy God ... we do not believe in the tradition of our brethren, which was handed down to them by the childishness of their fathers; but we believe that ... thou hast made it known unto us that there shall be no Christ. Alma 31:16

  345. Again the third time the voice came, and did speak unto them marvelous words which cannot be uttered by man; and the walls did tremble again, and the earth shook. Helaman 5:33
  346. The faces of Nephi and Lehi; and behold, they did shine exceedingly. Helaman 5:36
  347. They all did begin to cry unto the voice of him who had shaken the earth; yea, they did cry even until the cloud of darkness was dispersed. Helaman 5:42

  367. It was this secret band of robbers who did carry on this work of destruction and wickedness. 11:2
  368. O Lord, rather let there be a famine in the land. 11:4
  369. And so it was done, according to the words of Nephi. And there was a great famine upon the land. 11:5
  370. The whole earth was smitten ... so that they were smitten that they did perish by thousands in the more wicked parts of the land. 11:6
  371. And it came to pass that the people saw that they were about to perish by famine, and they began to remember the Lord their God. 11:7
  372. They became an exceedingly great band of robbers; and they did search out all the secret plans of Gadianton; and thus they became robbers of Gadianton. 11:26

  374. Yea, except he doth visit them with death and with terror, and with famine and with all manner of pestilence, they will not remember him. 12:3
  375. Behold, if he say unto this mountain -- Be thou raised up, and come over and fall upon that city, that it be buried up -- behold it is done. 12:17
  376. Behold, I, Samuel, a Lamanite, do speak the words of the Lord which he doth put into my heart; and behold he hath put it into my heart. 13:5
  377. Four hundred years shall not pass away before I will cause that they shall be smitten; yea, I will visit them with the sword and with famine and with pestilence. 13:9

At the time that he [Jesus] shall yield up the ghost there shall be thunderings and lightnings for the space of many hours, and the earth shall shake and tremble; and the rocks which are upon the face of this earth, which are both above the earth and beneath, which ye know at this time are solid, or the more part of it is one solid mass, shall be broken up. 14:21
  388. There shall be great tempests, and there shall be many mountains laid low, like unto a valley, and there shall be many places which are now called valleys which shall become mountains, whose height is great. 14:23
  389. Many highways shall be broken up, and many cities shall become desolate. 14:24
  390. And many graves shall be opened, and shall yield up many of their dead; and many saints shall appear unto many. 14:25
  391. Darkness should cover the face of the whole earth for the space of three days. 14:27
  392. The angel said unto me that many shall see greater things than these ... that there should be no cause for unbelief. 14:28
  393. Whosoever will not believe, a righteous judgment might come upon them. 14:29
  394. Your women shall have great cause to mourn in the day that they shall give suck. 15:2
  395. Wo unto them which are with child, for they shall be heavy and cannot flee; therefore, they shall be trodden down and shall be left to perish. 15:2
  396. The Lamanites hath he [God] hated ... because of the iniquity of the tradition of their fathers. 15:4
  397. If they will not repent, and observe to do my will, I will utterly destroy them, saith the Lord, because of their unbelief. 15:17
  398. But the Spirit of the Lord was with him, insomuch that they could not hit him with their stones neither with their arrows. 16:2
  399. Behold he hath a devil; and because of the power of the devil which is in him we cannot hit him with our stones and our arrows. 16:6
  400. He [Samuel] was never heard of more. 16:8
  401. Angels did appear unto men, wise men, and did declare unto them glad tidings of great joy. 16:14
  402. The people began ... to depend upon their own strength and upon their own wisdom. 16:15

  404. It is not reasonable that such a being as a Christ shall come; if so, and he be the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth. 16:18
  405. 3 Nephi

  406. He [Nephi Sr.] departed out of the land, and whither he went, no man knoweth. 1:3
  407. There was a day set apart by the unbelievers, that all those who believed in those traditions should be put to death. 1:9
  408. Be of good cheer ... on the morrow come I [the Lord] into the world. 1:13
  409. The people began to be astonished because there was no darkness when the night came. 1:15
  410. Many, who had not believed ... fell to the earth and became as if they were dead. 1:16
  411. All the people upon the face of the whole earth ... were so exceedingly astonished that they fell to the earth. 1:17
  412. It came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. 1:19
  413. It came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word. 1:21
  414. The people ... began to be less and less astonished at a sign or a wonder. 2:1
  415. Satan ... lead them away to believe that the doctrine of Christ was a foolish and a vain thing. 2:2
  416. The people ... did not believe that there should be any more signs or wonders given. 2:3
  417. Nephi, who was the father of Nephi ... did not return to the land of Zarahemla, and could nowhere be found in all the land. 2:9
  418. Their curse was taken from them, and their skin became white like unto the Nephites. 2:15
  419. Their young men and their daughters became exceedingly fair. 2:16
  420. Those armies of robbers ... began ... to sally forth from the hills. 4:1
  421. They were girded about after the manner of robbers; and they had a lamb-skin about their loins, and they were dyed in blood, and their heads were shorn. 4:7
  422. May the Lord ... cause to be felled to the earth all who shall seek to slay them because of power and secret combinations. 4:29
  423. Their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears. 4:33
  424. There was not a living soul among all the people of the Nephites who did doubt in the least the words of all the holy prophets. 5:1
  425. Thus they did put an end to all those wicked, and secret, and abominable combinations. 5:6
  426. Behold, I am called Mormon. 5:12

  428. And the regulations of the government were destroyed, because of the secret combination. 7:6
  429. The more righteous part of the people had nearly all become wicked. 7:7

  435. Many great and notable cities were sunk, and many were burned, and many were shaken till the buildings thereof had fallen to the earth, and the inhabitants thereof were slain. 8:14
  436. Some who were carried away in the whirlwind; and whither they went no man knoweth. 8:16

  438. For the space of three days that there was no light seen. 8:23
  439. It came to pass that there was a voice heard among all the inhabitants of the earth. 9:1

  441. Behold, that great city Zarahemla have I [Jesus] burned with fire, and the inhabitants thereof. 9:3
  442. Behold, that great city Moroni have I [Jesus] caused to be sunk in the depths of the sea, and the inhabitants thereof to be drowned. 9:4
  443. Behold, that great city Moronihah have I [Jesus] covered with earth, and the inhabitants thereof. 9:5
  444. Behold, the city of Gilgal have I [Jesus] caused to be sunk, and the inhabitants thereof to be buried up in the depths of the earth. 9:6
  445. Yea, and the city of Onihah and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Mocum and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Jerusalem and the inhabitants thereof; and waters have I [Jesus] caused to come up in the stead thereof. 9:7
  446. Behold, the city of Gadiandi, and the city of Gadiomnah, and the city of Jacob, and the city of Gimgimno, all these have I [Jesus] caused to be sunk, and made hills and valleys in the places thereof; and the inhabitants thereof have I buried up in the depths of the earth. 9:8
  447. Behold, that great city Jacobugath ... have I [Jesus] caused to be burned with fire because of their sins and their wickedness, which was above all the wickedness of the whole earth, because of their secret murders and combinations. 9:9
  448. Behold, the city of Laman, and the city of Josh, and the city of Gad, and the city of Kishkumen, have I [Jesus] caused to be burned with fire, and the inhabitants thereof. 9:10
  449. Because ... there were none righteous among them, I [Jesus] did send down fire and destroy them. 9:11
  450. Many great destructions have I [Jesus] caused to come upon this land. 9:12
  451. It came to pass that ... they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven. 11:3

  483. Ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet. 25:3
  484. He shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. 25:6
  485. These scriptures [the book of Malachi], which ye had not with you, the Father commanded that I [Jesus] should give unto you. 26:2
  486. He [Jesus] did expound all things, even from the beginning until the time that he should come in his glory -- yea, even all things which should come upon the face of the earth, even until the elements should melt with fervent heat, and the earth should be wrapt together as a scroll, and the heavens and the earth should pass away. 26:3
  487. There cannot be written in this book even a hundredth part of the things which Jesus did truly teach. 26:6
  488. Babes did open their mouths and utter marvelous things; and the things which they did utter were forbidden. 26:16
  489. Many of them saw and heard unspeakable things, which are not lawful to be written. 26:18
  490. Behold, I was about to write the names of those who were never to taste of death, but the Lord forbade. 28:25
  491. Wo be unto him that will not hearken unto the words of Jesus ... it would be better for them if they had not been born. 28:34-35
  492. When the Lord shall see fit, in his wisdom, that these sayings shall come unto the Gentiles. 29:1
  493. Wo unto him that shall deny the revelations of the Lord, and that shall say the Lord no longer worketh by revelation, or by prophecy. 29:6
  494. 4 Nephi

  495. And thus did the thirty and eighth year pass away, and also the thirty and ninth, and forty and first, and the forty and second, yea, even until forty and nine years had passed away, and also the fifty and first, and the fifty and second; yea, and even until fifty and nine years had passed away. 6
  496. The people of Nephi did wax strong, and did multiply exceedingly fast, and became an exceedingly fair and delightsome people. 10

  504. Mormon

  505. And now I, Mormon, make a record of the things which I have both seen and heard, and call it the Book of Mormon. 1:1
  506. The people were as numerous almost, as it were the sand of the sea. 1:7
  507. The Holy Ghost did not come upon any, because of their wickedness and unbelief. 1:14
  508. And I, being fifteen years of age and being somewhat of a sober mind, therefore I was visited of the Lord, and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus. 1:15
  509. I did endeavor to preach unto this people, but my mouth was shut, and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; for behold they had wilfully rebelled against their God. 1:16
  510. The inhabitants thereof began to hide up their treasures in the earth; and they became slippery, because the Lord had cursed the land. 1:18
  511. The Nephites ... began to cry ... but ... their sorrowing was ... the sorrowing of the damned. 2:10-13
  512. They did not come unto Jesus with broken hearts and contrite spirits, but they did curse God, and wish to die. 2:14
  513. I saw thousands of them hewn down in open rebellion against their God, and heaped up as dung upon the face of the land. 2:15
  514. Then the voice of the Lord came to me and said, Vengeance is mine ..., they shall be cut off from the face of the earth. 3:14-15
  515. It is by the wicked that the wicked are punished. 4:5
  516. This people [the Lamanites] shall be scattered, and shall become a dark, a filthy, and a loathsome people ... because of their unbelief and idolatry. 5:11
  517. They [the Lamanites] were once a delightsome people ... but now, behold, they are led about by Satan. 5:17-18
  518. If ye believe that [the Bible] ye will believe this [the Bookd of Mormon] also. 7:9
  519. Great and marvelous is the destruction of my people, the Nephites. And behold, it is the hand of the Lord which hath done it. 8:7-8
  520. Whoso receiveth this record, and shall not condemn it because of the imperfections which are in it. 8:12
  521. If there be faults [in Moroni's record] they be the faults of a man. 8:17
  522. He that condemneth [the plates] ... shall be in danger of hell fire. 8:17
  523. The same that judgeth rashly shall be judged rashly again ... he that smiteth shall be smitten again, of the Lord. 8:19
  524. He that shall breathe out wrath and strifes against the work of the Lord ... the same is in danger to be hewn down and cast into the fire. 8:21
  525. The blood of saints shall cry unto the Lord, because of secret combinations and the works of darkness. 8:27
  526. Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing. 8:35
  527. Your churches, yea, even every one, have become polluted. 8:36
  528. Why do ye build up your secret abominations? 8:40
  529. The sword of vengeance hangeth over you; and the time soon cometh that he avengeth the blood of the saints upon you. 8:41
  530. Ye shall be brought to see your nakedness before God, and ... and the holiness of Jesus Christ ... will kindle a flame of unquenchable fire upon you. 9:5
  531. Ye unbelieving, turn ye unto the Lord ... that perhaps ye may be found spotless, pure, fair, and white, having been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb. 9:6
  532. Jesus Christ, even the Father and the Son. 9:12
  533. He that is filthy shall be filthy still ... and he that is unhappy shall be unhappy still. 9:14
  534. The reason why he ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men is because that they dwindle in unbelief. 9:20
  535. He that believeth not shall be damned. 9:23
  536. These signs shall follow them that believe -- in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. 9:24
  537. Doubt not, but be believing. 9:27
  538. We have written this record according to our knowledge, in the characters which are called among us the reformed Egyptian. 9:32
  539. If our plates had been sufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew. 9:33
  540. If we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record. 9:33
  541. These things are written that we may rid our garments of the blood of our brethren, who have dwindled in unbelief. 9:35

  543. And now I, Moroni, proceed to give an account of those ancient inhabitants who were destroyed by the hand of the Lord upon the face of this north country. 1:1

  545. The Lord ... said unto him [the brother of Jared] ... there shall be none greater than the nation which I will raise up unto me of thy seed, upon all the face of the earth. 1:40-43

  547. The Lord did go before them, and did talk with them as he stood in a cloud, and gave directions whither they should travel. 2:5

  549. For the space of three hours did the Lord talk with the brother of Jared, and chastened him because he remembered not to call upon the name of the Lord. 2:14

And they were built after a manner that they were exceedingly tight, even that they would hold water like unto a dish; and the bottom thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the sides thereof were tight like unto a dish ... and the top thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the length thereof was the length of a tree; and the door thereof, when it was shut, was tight like unto a dish. 2:17

  556. Ye shall write them and shall seal them up, that no one can interpret them; for ye shall write them in a language that they cannot be read. 3:22
  557. These stones shall magnify to the eyes of men these things which ye shall write. 3:24
  558. He [Jesus] showed unto the brother of Jared all the inhabitants of the earth which had been, and also all that would be. 3:25
  559. After ... they have all dwindled in unbelief ... I am commanded that I should hide them up again in the earth. 4:3
  560. Behold, I have written upon these plates the very things which the brother of Jared saw. 4:4
  561. I have sealed up the interpreters, according to the commandment of the Lord. 4:5

  569. I, Moroni, have written the words which were commanded me, according to my memory ... the things which I have sealed up; therefore touch them not in order that ye may translate; for that thing is forbidden you. 5:1
  570. The Lord caused stones to shine in darkness. 6:3
  571. There was no water that could hurt them, their vessels being tight like unto a dish. 6:7
  572. The sons and the daughters of the brother of Jared were twenty and two souls. 6:20
  573. Orihah ... begat thirty and one, among whom were twenty and three sons. 7:1-2
  574. They formed a secret combinationb... which combination is most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God. 8:18
  575. For the Lord worketh not in secret combinations. 8:19

  582. Because of their wicked combinations ... there began to be wars ... famines and pestilences ... a great destruction, such ... as never had been known upon the face of the earth. 11:7

  584. There arose a rebellion among the people, because of that secret combination. 11:15
  585. The three disciples obtained a promise that they should not taste of death. 12:17
  586. When God put forth his finger he could not hide it from the sight of the brother of Jared. 12:20
  587. The Gentiles will mock at these things, because of our weakness in writing. 12:23
  588. The Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn. 12:26
  589. The brother of Jared said unto the mountain Zerin, Remove -- and it was removed. 12:30
  590. My garments are not spotted with your blood. 12:38
  591. In fine, there were none of the fair sons and daughters upon the face of the whole earth who repented of their sins. 13:17
  592. In the first year that Ether dwelt in the cavity of a rock, there were many people who were slain by the sword of those secret combinations. 13:18
  593. Gilead ... received great strength to his army, because of secret combinations. 14:8
  594. One of the secret combinations murdered him in a secret pass. 14:10
  595. There had been slain two millions of mighty men, and also their wives and their children. 15:2
  596. The waters of Ripliancum, which, by interpretation, is large. 15:8

  599. The manner of administering the wine ... they took the cup, and said ... sanctify this wine. 5:1-2

  601. Whoso was found to commit iniquity, and three witnesses of the church did condemn them before the elders, and if they repented not, and confessed not, their names were blotted out. 6:7
  602. He that supposeth that little children need baptism ... must go down to hell. 8:14
  603. He that saith that little children need baptism ... are in danger of ... hell, and an endless torment. 8:20
  604. The daughters of the Lamanites have they taken prisoners; and after depriving them of that which was most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue. 9:9
